Software Build Server Upgraded - Thursday, 5 August 2010
Jenasys Design is pleased to announce that we are upgrading our automated software build server from v6 to v7.  The Final Builder Software was released yesterday by the Vsoft Australia, based in our countries capital city, Canberra.

Over the next week we will be migrating all our customers software to automatically rebuild after every code change.  Once software code is changed, the continuous integration server will rebuild the software and run a set of automated tests (unit).

The result will be higher quality software solutions and faster identification of breaking changes.

KPI reporting

Johnson Screens have upgraded the reporting features of their Key Performance Indicators (KPI) software to implement the latest SQL Server Reporting and .net 4 software from Microsoft.
The KPI reporting software is based on a Application Programming Interface (API) created at Jenasys Design to simplify the implementation of Business Intelligence reporting for Jenasys Design customers.

Reporting Features

  • Implements the current Microsoft Business Intelligence and .net technology.
  • Printer, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF output options.
  • Multiple report data filtering options.
  • Tracks usage statistics.
  • Dual IBM AS/400 BPCS and Microsoft SQL Server report data sources.
  • Integrated software management with CodeSmith Tools Insight web based Software Management Services.

Microsoft Visual Studio

Microsoft Releases Visual Studio Software development IDE

Microsoft's premier software development IDE is upgraded to a new edition today. Tests at Jenasys Design indicate that a number of bugs we reported to Microsoft about previous editions have been resolved. We will be looking at adopting the software quickly for a number of clients.

Jenasys Designs opinion of the improvements

  • Addresses a number of issues in our reporting solutions for customers.
    • Better web browser support (not just IE)
    • Improved memory usage
    • Better page navigation.
    • Improvements in web printing and user interaction
    • International page sizes.
    • Fixes to unit conversions between inches and centimeters.
  • Includes a better development experience for designing WPF applications.
  • Integrates a number of software components that were provided separately that analysis software code.
  • Higher editions of the software include software automation recording allowing you to record and replay GUI testing (including integrated screen recording).

The catch

The new software comes with more features and a significant price increase.  Recent Australian dollar exchange rate changes are not helping because Microsoft Australia set an exchange rate closer to  .65 AUD for all products while our current exchange rate hovers around .80 - .90 AUD. We remain disappointed in this policy from Microsoft as it adds significant costs to our business.
